Simms was before my time at UT, but I note he won 26 out of 32 games and stands high in UT qb rankings. Why the animus? He didn't meet general expectations. He wasn't his father. -------------------- ![]() |

Widely considered the top recruit in the country, from New Jersey, kid had a lot of pressure to succeed. Oozed talent. Arguably the best talent to land at The University. And he came in w/ Cory Redding. Definitely one of the better Horn QB's. He competed w/ Applewhite for starters spot. Pretty tough competition from fans perspective. Texans tend to prefer Texans to southerners to yankees. This post has been edited by dshack: Dec 28 2009, 08:32 PM |

He didn't meet general expectations. He wasn't his father. I don't remember Simms sr. being incredibly regarded coming out of college. Much better pro than collegiate I'm thinking. Nonetheless, I always thought both Simms' and Major represented the Horns well after their time on the Forty Acres. Class acts both, no matter their competition on the Forty. |

True about Simms sr., but I always got the impression that he was expected to live up to his dads NFL performance. I liked him, thought he played well but received a lot of undue criticism. -------------------- ![]() |

Label as possibly the most talented Horn recruit ever is no small detail. Texans demanded much. Perfect example of how professional potential does not parlay into collegiate success. IMHO, Simms was a dang good QB at UT, but Applewhite was a wild-eyed WINNER. Fight, claw and scratch winner. In the same mold as Street and Phillips. I'll take a winner over a good QB any day. IMHO. -------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
